On Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 6pm to 8pm I will be presenting “From the Ground Up” at Shabahang Carpets in Wilmette. I will show you how to design a beautiful room around a fabulous rug!
I asked Moe and Afshin Shabahang, our experts at Shabahang Carpets, to share a little of their specialized knowledge with us in preview of the event.
1. Often people are afraid to purchase a beautiful rug for a family room as they think that “family life” will ruin it. What can you tell people about the durability of a fine quality rug?
Hand made rugs were made during a time when people lived in tents and under the elements. The way we live today is much different than the past, even though the rugs are still made the same way.
2. How long have you been in business?
I have been in business for 44 years.
3. Where do you source your rugs from?
I bring my rugs direct from the weavers I have dealt with all my life, from India, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Tibet, and China.
4. What if someone falls in love with a pattern but needs a different size or coloration?
Depending on the rug they are in love with, some of them we are capable of making it in any size or color combination.
