Every year, for the past several years I’ve attended the One of a Kind Show at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago.

Be One Of A Kind Sign

It’s held the first weekend in December and I generally attend with my friend Alaina as our Christmas outing together. I love the show. It’s an opportunity to be exposed to a wealth of artisans crafting everything from food, apparel, jewelry and furniture to fine art. Here are some of my highlights from this year’s show.

Mau Conceptual Clothing

Who’d have thunk it? Outerwear made of Tyvek house wrap!

Olmox

Beautiful hand-made filigree jewelry! (Bought some of this stuff..)

Pook

Remember sock monkeys? These guys make hats and other gear out of the same socks. They have a hilarious demonstration that I look forward to seeing every year! www.pook.ca

Alan Daigre Designs

Beautiful hand-made wood furniture. Each piece was an individual tile that moved- remarkably comfortable! Alan Daigre Designs www.alandaigredesigns.com

Hammill Diebolt Studios

Believe it or not, these purses are made of wood! They were gorgeous.

These are just a small sampling of the many artisans who displayed their wares at the show. The great news is that the One of a Kind show is becoming a biannual event with the next one scheduled from April 29- May 1 2016. Grab a friend and go! www.oneofakindshowchicago.com

Four Finds at One of a Kind

Last week I attended the annual One of a Kind show at Chicago’s Merchandise Mart.  It’s a favorite way for my friend Alaina and I to kick off the holiday and spend a little quality girl time together! What I enjoy most about the show is finding new and unusual furniture, artwork and accessories that I can utilize for my clients.  Here are four finds that were fun, different, and perhaps a little wacky.

#1.  The Pencil Lady (www.pencillady.com) a.k.a. Sue Lowenberg.  She creates jewelry, ties, artwork and furniture utilizing pencils!

These are all made with pencils!

#2. Olde Good Things (www.oldegoodthings.com) Repurposing and utilizing architectural salvage pieces.  Some really cool mirrors, but I thought this was a great table.

I love the natural beauty of this table

#3. Bella Bella (www.bellabella.com) a.k.a Lara Moore.  She creates gorgeous furniture, artwork and mirrors using tissue paper and resin!

Lara hand-cuts each blade of grass from tissue paper!

And last but certainly not least:

#4.  Haute Interiors (www.hauteinteriorsllc.etsy.com) Beautiful and unique napkin rings using posh cashmere and other fancy stuff.

How about some cashmere and maribou feather napkin rings?

Did you attend the show this year?  If so, I’d love to hear what your favorites were!  If you didn’t and you enjoy shopping in a crowded, festive place, mark your calendar for the first weekend in December 2012.
