Rhymes with Orange….

Design Trends

A very Happy New Year to all!  In this first post of the new year I would like to introduce to you the 2012 “Color of the Year”!  And the winner is (drumroll please)…..

TANGERINE TANGO!

Pantone's Tangerine Tango!

Yes, the world-renowned Pantone company, which researches and forecasts color trends has chosen this beautiful orange-red as its “Color of the Year”.

It’s already beginning to show up on fashion runways, with designers like Tommy Hilfiger, Nanette Lepore, Cynthia Steffe by Shaun Kearney, Elie Tahari and Adrienne Vittadini incorporating it into their 2012 Spring line-up.

You’ll also see it in cosmetics, as later this year Sephora and Pantone Universe will be launching the “Color of the Year Beauty Collection”.

What’s so great about this color, and why was it chosen?  Well, Pantone searches the world looking for color influences from films, exotic locales, new products, etc. and selects the color they believe will be the “hot” color for the year (no pun intended).

As for Tangerine Tango in your home, the orange-based hues, according to Suzy Chiazzari in her book “Living in Color”,  are cheerful, uplifting, energizing and makes rooms cozy and inviting.  It pairs well with greens, golds, dark brown wood tones, and pale wood tones.  Psychologists have found that when people are exposed to the color orange, they feel relaxed, emotionally secure, and tend to talk to each other more.

In my home, the room that people tend to like the most has an abundance of orange in it.  What do you think?  Do you love or hate this year’s “Color of the Year”?  Are you game to try it in some way?
